Terms

The simple version.

By using Handled you agree to these terms. We’ve kept them short and readable.

What we do

We help you write a letter (with AI that drafts from what you tell us, or in your own words), design a cover (with AI or your photo), and have it written with a real pen and mailed, through our handwriting fulfillment partner.

Your part

  • You’re responsible for the final words and the address. You see and approve the letter before you pay.
  • Keep it kind: no hateful, harassing, threatening, sexual or illegal content. We may refuse or cancel letters that aren’t.
  • Only upload photos you have the right to use.
  • Be at least 18, or have a parent or guardian place the order.

The AI

AI drafts are a starting point and can get things wrong. Read your letter before you pay; what you approve is what we write. Covers are designed for your letter and are a little different every time.

Prices and payment

Prices are shown before you pay and include US postage. Extra postage abroad and gift cards are shown as separate lines. Payment is taken by Stripe when you check out.

Delivery

Without a chosen date, letters are mailed within about a week. With a chosen arrival date, we schedule the mailing to match and show an estimated arrival window. Delivery times are estimates: once a letter is with USPS, we can’t control when it arrives.

Auto-letters

When you set up an auto-letter, you authorize us to charge your saved card each time one of its letters is sent. We email a preview first; you can approve, edit or skip it. If you do nothing, it’s sent and charged on its approval deadline. You can pause or cancel anytime, and nothing more is charged after that.

Text messages

If you turn on texts, you agree that Handled may send recurring automated text messages about your cards (reminders for dates you saved, mailing updates and unfinished cards) to the number you gave, up to 10 a month. Consent isn’t a condition of purchase. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel and HELP for help, or email hello@sohandled.com. Carriers aren’t liable for delayed or undelivered messages. US and Canadian numbers only.

Helping someone else

When you send cards for someone you help, you confirm they’re happy for you to send cards in their name and to their saved people, and you pay for those cards. They can ask us not to send a card from their private link while it’s still waiting to be written; we then cancel it and refund your card.

Handled credit

Credit is sold at full price and spent on letters at their normal price (up to two cards’ worth per letter, with any rest paid by card). It never expires, has no cash value and can’t be transferred once it’s on an account. A gift code works like cash until it’s redeemed, so keep it safe. Unused credit is lost if you delete your account.

Referral credit

When a friend’s invite link brings you here, your first order gets the credit shown on the invite, taken off what your card pays (the price itself doesn’t change). It’s for new customers only: one per person, email, account and payment card, and not for inviting yourself. Once that first card is paid for, the friend who invited you gets the referrer credit shown in their account. Referral credit has no cash value, can’t be transferred, and any of it still unused 12 months after it was given expires (credit you bought never does). Friend credit and your own Handled credit aren’t combined on one order. We may pause referral credit at any time, or withhold it where it’s misused; credit already given stays.

Our guarantee: we’ll fix it or refund it

If a card or letter arrives damaged, or isn’t what you ordered (the wrong words, the wrong design, or an address mistake we introduced), we’ll reprint it or refund you, whichever you prefer. Just email hello@sohandled.com; a photo helps us fix the cause. It doesn’t cover an address that was already wrong when you entered it, or postal delays (arrival dates are estimates). Details are on Refunds & cancellations.

Refunds

See Refunds & cancellations: a full refund before your letter is sent for writing, and a reprint or refund if it arrives damaged or wrong.

The fine print, briefly

We do our best to keep the service running and your letters on time, but we can’t promise it’s never interrupted. Our responsibility for any order is limited to what you paid for it. We may update these terms; the version on this page is the current one.
